My approach to working on this project has been to first focus on completing the card illustrations. However, with multiple illustrations completed, I’ve started to develop the design and formatting of the faces of the cards. I started designing these cards with a focus on the frame and then moved to font.
I wanted the frame to be inspired by the shapes and lines you would see in Chinese art and architecture. The first drafts featured in some of my posts on Twitter and TikTok were very angular. Wanting to match the floral elements in a lot of my illustrations and even the softer nature of some of the characters and emotions in the art, I ultimately changed direction and landed at the final frame design.
